Risk Assessments and Treatment

I provide specialized risk assessments and treatment services for individuals involved in the criminal justice system, including clients with sexual offending related offences and domestic violence related offences, with a focus on accountability, emotional regulation, risk reduction, and meaningful long-term behavioural change. My approach is grounded in creating a respectful, non-judgmental, and collaborative therapeutic environment where individuals can better understand the factors contributing to their behaviour while working toward healthier and more stable ways of living.

Risk assessments are completed using structured, evidence-based assessment tools commonly utilized within forensic and correctional settings. Depending on the individual’s history, presenting concerns, and referral needs, assessments may include the use of actuarial and dynamic risk instruments designed to evaluate areas such as offending patterns, relationship functioning, emotional regulation, coping strategies, protective factors, and risk management needs.

In addition to assessment services, ongoing treatment and counselling can also be provided following the completion of an assessment. Treatment is tailored to the unique needs of the individual and incorporates strengths-based approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and principles from the Good Lives Model. Therapy focuses not only on reducing risk, but also on helping individuals build healthier identities, improve emotional awareness, strengthen interpersonal functioning, and develop meaningful prosocial goals.

Counselling may also explore areas such as offence pathways and cycles, emotional triggers, cognitive distortions, coping patterns, attachment and relationship concerns, self-regulation, and the development of sustainable relapse prevention and safety planning strategies. The overall goal is to support insight, accountability, personal growth, and safer long-term outcomes for both the individual and the broader community.

Risk assessments and specialized forensic services are tailored to the specific needs of each referral. Fees and timelines will vary depending on the nature and complexity of the assessment and treatment requested.

Meaningful change is possible when individuals are provided with the opportunity, support, and tools to move toward a healthier and more stable direction in life. Clients and their representatives are invited to connect wiht me for a no cost consultation to determine specific needs.

Specialized Treatment Services

In addition to risk assessment services, specialized treatment is available for individuals involved in the criminal justice system, including those facing or convicted of sexual offending-related offences.

Treatment may be provided for individuals involved in:

Child Sexual Exploitation Material (CSEM)-Related Offences

Treatment focuses on accountability, emotional regulation, healthy coping skills, internet and technology management, healthy sexuality, relapse prevention, and long-term risk reduction.

Hands-On Sexual Offending

Treatment addresses offence-specific risk factors, healthy sexuality, consent and boundaries, relationship functioning, emotional regulation, victim impact awareness, relapse prevention, and protective factor development.

Individuals Who Deny or Dispute Allegations

Some individuals seek treatment while maintaining their innocence, disputing allegations, awaiting trial, or appealing convictions. Participation in treatment does not require an admission of guilt. Treatment may focus on emotional regulation, healthy relationships, decision-making, personal responsibility, boundaries, risk awareness, and long-term wellbeing.

Individualized Treatment Planning

Treatment is tailored to the unique needs, strengths, and circumstances of each client. Where available, treatment planning may be informed by formal risk assessments and evidence-based measures of risk, need, and protective factors. Assessment findings help identify treatment targets, guide intervention strategies, and support individualized treatment planning.
